What is NEET AIR and why it matters

Your All India Rank decides which medical college you can join through the centralized MCC counselling. The lower your rank number, the better. NEET 2026 will see roughly 24 lakh registered candidates, of which around 12 lakh will qualify the cutoff. Only the top 1.5 lakh ranks have a realistic shot at a government MBBS seat through All India Quota.

A NEET rank predictor 2026 like the one above lets you map your expected score to your likely rank long before NTA publishes the official scorecard. Use this to set targets, plan which colleges to research, and adjust your preparation strategy.

Category-wise NEET rank in 2026

The number on your scorecard is your overall AIR (unreserved). For SC, ST, OBC NCL, and EWS candidates, the rank that matters for counselling is your category rank, which is typically a much smaller number because it ranks you only within your category pool. Closing ranks for reserved seats are also higher than the General closing rank for the same college. Our All India NEET college predictor accounts for category multipliers automatically.

How our NEET rank predictor 2026 works

The predictor uses a piecewise function that maps NEET marks to All India Rank. The breakpoints are calibrated against publicly released NEET 2024 and 2025 result distributions. Because NEET rank is non linear with respect to marks (a small drop in score at the top end shifts your rank by hundreds, while at the middle of the curve it shifts you by thousands), a single formula will not work everywhere. The piecewise approach gives a tight fit across the full score range.

The confidence band reflects expected variance year on year. NEET 2026 may shift the curve slightly, but the order of magnitude will hold. Pair this rank with our All India NEET college predictor to see which medical colleges accept candidates around your AIR.

Frequently asked questions

Our NEET rank predictor 2026 uses a piecewise function calibrated against publicly available NEET 2024 and 2025 result distributions. The output is a confidence band, not a single number, because year on year shifts in the candidate pool can move ranks by 10 to 15 percent for the same score. Treat the band as a planning range, not a guarantee.

Yes. The overall All India Rank you see is the unreserved rank. For SC, ST, OBC, and EWS candidates, the rank that matters for counselling is the category rank, which is typically a smaller number than the overall rank because the pool is smaller. Our predictor accounts for this when you pick a college category on the college predictor page.

For a government MBBS seat through All India Quota in the General category, you typically need a rank under 15,000. For AIIMS Delhi, the closing rank is usually under 100. For top state government colleges, rank under 5,000 is competitive. Private MBBS seats open up much further down the rank ladder.

No, the predictor needs your expected NEET score to estimate your rank. If you have not taken NEET yet, take mock tests on neet.training to get a data driven predicted score based on real exam simulations.

NEET has 180 attemptable questions out of 200, worth 4 marks each correct, minus 1 mark each wrong. Maximum possible is 720. Skipping carries no penalty. Most students plan for an attempt of 170 plus with a target accuracy of 85 percent or higher to be competitive.
